Distressed Fereghan Antique Rug – 8999.
A wonderful distressed antique Fereghan carpet woven around 1880, the natural colours are just fantastic! Showing are worn areas of pile in many areas as we can see on the high resolution image, but it does not have any holes or structural damage at all. Mainly the wear is scattered around the carpet and in some ways adds to the charm and beauty of an antique carpet around 140 years old. We always supply excellent anti-slip underlay which keeps the carpet flat and aids its preservation. Beautifully drawn all over floral design created by expert weavers, the natural dyes of the late 19th century are just sublime. Full of character and interest, it is also rarer to find an ivory main background example. With an abundance of pale greens, yellows, soft reds and pale blues, this carpet would sit so well in a drawing room or study for example.

Fereghan carpets are generally one of two types, the first being a full field decoration of floral motifs based on Persian designs, most commonly with the geometric ‘Herati’ design. The second has a full medallion, usually with a contrasting colour, the edge of which is surrounded by a zig zag or jagged border. The dyes have mellowed beautifully due to the carpets age allowing it to be placed in a drawing room or dining room with ease.
